Actor Joem Bascon said he feels excited to work with two of the most beautiful and sexiest women in local showbiz — Ara Mina and Roxanne Guinoo.

Bascon will work with the actresses for ABS-CBN’s upcoming afternoon television series "Ligaw na Bulaklak."

"Na-excite, happy, kasi before pinapanood ko lang sila sa TV so iyon excited right now to work with them," Bascon told abs-cbnNEWS.com.

"Medyo na-starstruck kasi tulad nga ng sinasabi magaganda sila at sexy," Bascon added.

Bascon will play a mysterious character in the series.

"Sa sobrang laki ng misteryo at laki ng character hindi siya pwedeng ma-describe, so kailangang manood ang mga tao para malaman kung ano ang ginagawa ko. Kung good or bad ang character — nasa gitna siya," Bascon said.

Piolo’s shadow

Bascon, said to be a look-alike of actor Piolo Pascual, said he is now starting to break free from Pascual’s shadow.

"Before kasi noong nagle-"Let’s Go" pa medyo comedy, pa-cute roles pa ang ginagawa. So nag-decide ang handlers ko… to do off beat roles. Kasi si Piolo typical na boy next door… iyong siya iyong bida. So ngayon para makalayo sa anino ni Piolo ito gumagawa kami ngayon ng off beat ang role tulad sa "Prinsesa ng Banyera" na ako iyong kontrabida at off beat din ako sa indie film na "Adela" kung saan naging adik ako doon," explained Bascon.

Bascon said he needs other kinds of training and exposure to differentiate himself from Pascual. He also said this is the reason why his look is rugged, in contrast to Pascual’s boyish clean-shaven image.

Joem Bascon is a member of Star Magic. He started his career in 2006 as he played the role of ‘Bob’ for ABS-CBN’s "Let’s Go!"

Bascon also starred in the movies "All About Love" and "Batanes" with actress Izza Calzado.

Joem Bascon will also be doing a project with Angelika Panganiban for ABS-CBN’s "Your Song."

‘Kalayaan’ and more indie news

MANILA, Philippines—Two Asian actors are on board for filmmaker Adolf Alix’s new project.

Taiwanese superstar Ken Chu, who starred in Alix’s film “Batanes,” has agreed to co-produce the director’s next movie, which is about the plight of Filipino soldiers assigned in the Spratly Islands.

“We were in Batanes when I talked to Ken about the concept. He got back to me recently and said he has convinced other Chinese producers to invest in the new film,” Alix told Inquirer Entertainment on Tuesday.

The film, titled “Kalayaan,” will star Lao-Australian actor Ananda Everingham in the lead role. He appeared in the 2004 horror film, “Shutter.”

“Kalayaan” also features Filipino actors Joem Bascon and Arnold Reyes.
