Joem on All About Love

May 20, 2006
"JOHN Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo have proven that they can carry a film at the box office on their own with such hits as Now That I Have You and Close To You.

How come they accepted to be just one of the three pairs starring in Star Cinema’s 13th anniversary presentation All About Love?

“Ako, I trust Star Cinema,” says Bea. “Kahit trilogy, maganda naman talaga ang project and I really enjoyed my role. Also, pang-anniversary nga kasi ito.”

“I look at it as our chance to help other love-teams na kasama namin dito, Luis Manzano-Anne Curtis and Angelica Panganiban-Jason Abalos,” says John Lloyd. “It’s kind of payback time as other stars helped us when we were starting as a love-team.”

How come viewers continue to support their tandem even if they admit they have no romantic feelings for each other at all?

“I think it’s because wala kaming pretensions,” says John Lloyd. “We’re transparent at hindi namin sila niloloko na kunwari kami pero hindi pala. At dahil ‘di kami gumigimik, the viewers support us.”

“I think the main reason is they really have fantastic chemistry onscreen,” says Jerry Sineneng, who megged their episode, About Anna. “This is the first time I directed them and it was obvious from the start that they make a really good team. This movie shows them in their most mature roles so far. They even have a love scene here. Naiilang pa sila nu’ng una sa kissing scene nila, kaya na-Take 2 and I told them to open their lips a bit at ‘di parang napipilitan lang sila.

“Bea is also more daring here. We dressed her up in clothes that show her cleavage at sexy siya talaga lumabas. In the story, both of them are brokenhearted. John Lloyd’s fiancee suddenly died while Bea’s boyfriend (played by newcomer Joem Bascon) had to marry another girl he got preggy, so she became a manhater.”

Since the title of the film is All About Love, how do they feel when they’re in love?

“I’ve never really been that in love,” says Bea.

“Well, when you’re truly in love, para kang baliw, to the point that you even lose your self-respect for the one you love,” says John Lloyd.

Was that how he felt when he and Ciara Sotto broke up?

“Let’s not talk about that anymore. I’ve gotten over her. Tapos na ‘yun.”

Why doesn’t he just court Bea since they look good together? Is there something wrong with her?

“Nothing’s wrong with her. Walang kulang sa kanya. But like they say, hindi natuturuan ang puso. When our loveteam started on TV, we were not even friends. It was halfway through our second movie — that’s only when we became friends and we exchanged phone numbers. Right now, we’re the best of friends, who knows where we might go from there. Sabi, mas nagtatagal daw ang relationships that start as friends, ‘di ba?”
